From the "Common Beauty" series. Rooks are the scruffy cousins of the more handsome crows. Their pantaloons are raggedy and their beaks are white and tufty. Superstition often associates them with bad luck, but they are incredibly gregarious and communicative, and an intrinsic part of our countryside. The yew he sits in drips with folklore and toxins. As kids, we believed that if you went to a graveyard and danced around one thirteen times at midnight on halloween, the devil would appear before you. Luckily, we never got round to doing this.
